The Comparative and International Law Institute (CILI) responds to the intensified need for competent lawyers to effectively advise on the laws of more than one country. Through the Comparative and International Law Certificate program, CILI prepares students for careers in the public and private areas of international law, including such skills as direct negotiation with foreign governments, multinational corporations and international financial institutions.

Students enrolled in the program are required to take at least five courses in international and comparative law, as well as complete an externship in an international organization, law firm, or company. The externship carries a mandatory classroom component entitled Legal Externship: Becoming a Lawyer.
