All Catholic University of America students currently studying at the Rome Center in Rome, Italy or who are traveling in Italy with the Honors Program are safe and accounted for as of 10 a.m. EST on August 23, 2016. A 6.1 magnitude earthquake was reported 170 miles northeast of Rome last evening at 3:30 a.m. Rome time. While there are no visible signs of damage to The Catholic University Rome Center after a preliminary investigation, a thorough survey will be conducted to ensure that the building is safe for student use. The Rome Center Director was with all the students as of 10 a.m. today.

We join Pope Francis expressing “condolences to those who have lost loved ones and…who are anxious and afraid.”

Information about the building’s safety will be directly communicated with students studying in the Rome Center as it is available.
